THE ESTIMATION OF VERTICAL FLAME SPEED OVER FABRICS BY FLAME PROPOGATION ALONG A 45O SLOPE AND ROUND A SEMICIRCLE

Thomas, P.H. and Wraight, H.G., 1957. THE ESTIMATION OF VERTICAL FLAME SPEED OVER FABRICS BY FLAME PROPOGATION ALONG A 45O SLOPE AND ROUND A SEMICIRCLE. Fire Research Notes 283

ABSTRACT

Two tests for the flammability of fabrics - the semi-circular test B.S. 476: Part II: 1955 and a 45 degree test, a modification of the American Flammability Test - are compared with each other and with the speed at which flame spreads up a fabric hanging vertically. It is shown that the empirically derived correlation between measured vertical flame speed and the performance of the semi-circular test can be used to correlate the two tests with each other.
