Thomas, P.H., 1962. THE SIZE OF FLAMES FROM NATURAL FIRES. Fire Research Notes 497
ABSTRACT
Uncontrolled fires produce flames where the initial momentum of the fuel is low compared with the momentum produced by buoyancy. The heights of such flames with wood as the fuel have been examined and are discussed in terms of both a dimensional analysis and the entrainment of air into the turbulent flame and are compared with other experiments on the flow of hot gases. Some recent experiments on the effects of wind on such flames are also reported.
