Special reports received from Fire Brigades on fires in dwellings caused by kerosine burning appliances have been analysed with particular reference to portable space heaters. It appears that drip feed heaters may be about three and a half times as likely as wick fed ones to cause a fire, but the fires caused by wick fed heaters tend to be the more dangerous from the point of view of both casualties and spread. The causes of fires are dependent on the type of heater involved.
