FIRE SPREAD IN WOODEN CRIBS

Thomas, P.H., Simms, D.L. and Wraight, H.G., 1964. FIRE SPREAD IN WOODEN CRIBS. Fire Research Notes 537

ABSTRACT

A theoretical model describing the steady spread of fire in cribs of wood in still air is shown to be in reasonable agreement with the results of laboratory experiments, the majority of which are by Fons and his colleagues. For a wide range of conditions the rate of fire spread R is given by R?b = 5-9 mg cm^-2s^-l where R is in cm/s and ?b is the bulk density of the fuel bed.
