ABSTRACT

During the four year period 1965 to 1968 there were 3600 fires which cost £10,000 or more in direct damage. The aggregate loss in all these fires was £211 million out of a total estimated direct loss of £347 million in all fires during that period. This note contains a brief analysis of 3464 of these fires. Of these, 126 fires started outside buildings some of whioh spread to nearby buildings.
