Ramachandran, G., Kirsop, P. and Eveleigh, C., 1972. LARGE FIRES DURING 1970. Fire Research Notes 891
ABSTRACT
This note contains an analysis of large fires during 1970. These were fires which were estimated to have cost £10,000 or more in direct damage. There were 1115 such fires during 1970 resulting in a total loss of £69.9 million. Of these, 75 started in outdoor hazards, 56 per cent of which spread to buildings. The average loss in these "outdoor" fires was twice the average in the 1040 fires that started in buildings.
