ABSTRACT
The results of a preliminary analysis of reports show that during 1960 the Fire Brigades attended approximately 119 900 fires in England and Wales, approximately 12 100 in Scotland and approximately 1 600 in Northern Ireland. The number of incidents attended by each Fire Brigade is given in Table 1. In England and Wales, 4 members of the Fire Service were killed and approximately 200 firemen were injured; the Fire Service assisted in the rescue of approximately 500 persons from dangerous situations. In Scotland, 20 members of the Fire Service, including 5 from Glasgow salvage Corps, were killed and approximately 50 were injured; the Fire Service assisted in rescuing approximately 90 persons from dangerous situations. In Northern Ireland no member of the Fire Service was killed but approximately 10 were injured; the Fire Service assisted in rescuing approximately 10 persons from dangerous situations.
