During 1971 a letter was sent to laboratories carrying out research for central
government in different countries, inviting them to provide information as to
their research interests and resources. It was felt that this would be mutually
useful and would facilitate the exchange of information; it might also provide a
basis for closer co-operation in the future.
The information was asked for by means of a standard form to provide a ready means
of analysis. In all, 42 laboratories were asked for information and 17 replied,
filling in the questionnaire which was on two pages. The first page deals with
interests and the second with resources; these are printed on facing pages in
this report.
The second part of the report shows the distribution of the various laboratories
according to the different fields of activity.
